A Couple of Quotes to Start Your Day...

Today, I was sent the same quote by two different sources:  a college friend and an ex-student.  It's good enough to share and would certainly get Sir Kenneth Robinson to nod enthusiastically.
"We think we understand the rules when we become adults, what we really experience is a narrowing of imagination."--David Lynch

Here is another "quote" that I cannot verify was said by the good Doctor Einstein, but it is an excellent snippet as schools are back in session (at least here in the south).
"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think."--Albert Einstein
It's been very clear to me that the standardized testing and one-size-fits-all K-12 education emphasizes memorized facts as the key ingredient of "learning".  I would love for understanding, application, and thinking to be the goal of our education system, but it really is not.  The current goal is assessment, test scores, and graduation rate.  Not a good sign, if you ask me.
